Fill a kit this Easter and send comfort to a child with cancer

You can be the reason a child experiences a moment of delight and distraction while they're in hospital receiving treatment for cancer

Make A Donation

Hundreds of children will spend this Easter in hospital, surrounded by strangers in unfamiliar surroundings, enduring treatment for cancer when they should be at home tearing the foil off chocolate eggs and having fun with friends and family.

Your donation delivers Kids' Kits directly to children's bedsides. They're a hand-picked collection of care items designed to soothe, distract, and comfort young patients during long stays on the ward.

Help make a stay in hospital with cancer a little more bearable for a child like 9 year old Samuel

Imagine it: one minute, your child is a picture of health, full of energy and enjoying life; the next they're in a hospital bed, in an unfamiliar place, far away from home and surrounded by strangers. They're having cancer treatment. That's exactly what happened with Samuel.

He was just nine years old when a routine blood test in January 2025 unexpectedly revealed he had B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).

Before his diagnosis, his world revolved around rugby, his family, and his friends.

Parents, Nicki and Chris, recall that the diagnosis turned their world upside down in an instant.

“The first few days were a terrifying whirl. Everything moved so quickly. We were flooded with information and suddenly our Samuel didn’t feel like our familiar sporty son. Within a week he had a Hickman line inserted and soon after he began chemotherapy treatment.”

The months of grueling treatment that followed took place at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where Samuel received incredible care from the dedicated medical teams.

The side effects of chemo vary depending on an individual’s reaction to the type of treatment being given. In Samuel’s case it made him feel unbearably cold and uncomfortable.

In the midst of this emotional and physical turmoil, a Kids’ Cancer Kit arrived from Cancer Support UK. Receiving the Kids’ Kit on one of those long hospital days meant more than they could ever have expected says Nicki.

“That act of genuine kindness brightened both Samuel’s day and ours,” she explains. “We’re incredibly grateful to whoever donated it. Their act of generosity gave Samuel a sense of comfort at a time when he really needed reassurance.”

Samuel loved all the kit contents, but one item was particularly special – the Warmies® sensory bunny. Warm and soft, this cuddly toy was something he could cling to when everything else felt uncertain. It brought reassurance and a moment of calm in a world that had suddenly become extremely frightening.

Sadly, Samuel's story is far from unique. He's one of around 1,900 children diagnosed with cancer every year. By donating to our Easter appeal, you'll be helping to make sure there's a Kids' Kit available free to every child that needs one, each with its own snuggly bunny. Please donate today.

FAQs

How will my donation help children with cancer? +
Your donation will help us to fill and send Kids' Kits to children receiving treatment for cancer in hospitals across the UK this Easter and beyond by meeting some of the costs of doing so.
What's in a Kids' Kit? +
Designed with help from children and parents, our Kids' Kits help to make a stay in hospital more comforting for children receiving cancer treatment. Along with everyday practical items, they also come stocked with colouring pencils, puzzle books, fun Minion® socks and more PLUS everyone's favourite - our Warmies® snuggly bunnies!
Where do the Kids' Kits and Warmies® bunnies get sent? +
Most children with cancer will have treatment at what's known as a Principal Treatment Centre (PTC). There are 20 of them across the UK, located in Southampton, Sutton in Surrey, London, Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Cardiff. As you can see, they're quite spread out which adds to the costs of getting Kids' Kits to children that need them.
How many children will be in hospital receiving treatment for cancer this Easter? +
Too many. It's hard to put a precise figure on it, but at any given time there can be as many as 600 children receiving treatment for cancer. Around 1,900 are diagnosed with the disease every year (that's more than five a day), a figure that's climbing.
